DEBORAH P. KOLODJI

The Office Stapler

lotion caressed hands
with French manicures
slam slam
slam it down
endless bundles
of paperwork

a callused hand with dirt
under roughly-cut nails
awkwardly staples
a cafeteria plan claim

a trim figure
in basic black
perches on the counter
by the copier machine
but rarely catches the boss's eye

enduring curses
of an office worker's bad aim
it spits out staples
to continued abuse

retirement benefits
stapled together
but it has none

Deborah P Kolodji works in information technology to fund her poetry obsessions. President of the Science Fiction Poetry Association (www.sfpoetry.com) and a member of the Haiku Society of America, she has published over 800 poems and four chapbooks of poetry.
