CORY COFER
(Spoken Word)

The Black Quarterback

Passing lanes got narrow
They tucked and ran
Like a man
Avoid sacks like all plastic
Option quarterback
Doin' back flips in the end zone
Can throw and run
They couldn’t believe Doug Williams won
First black quarterback NFL Champ
Recruiting game got amped
Didn’t think blacks could think
Blinked
Missed the grab on Donovan McNabb
Laughed his way to the Super Bowl
Warren moon won championships in Canada
where it was super cold
Broke records for the Oilers
Hall of fame
They changed the game
They changed the game
Defy the haters
Vince Evans was a Raider
Fritz Pollard was the first
1923
Part running back, part QB
Cat was dark like me
Willie Thrower 1954
Chicago
Dark like me
Could throw a touchdown in the dark
Like the white QB’s
We got the right QB’s
Vince Young, Jemarcus Russel
I see the light
Throwing bombs to receivers
Where it’s fallin’ just right
