RADOMIR LUZA

How Can It Be

The orange day belies the green door as it is milked, manipulated and marked

And we sad compatriots sit by and stare at sky at nothing at our own failings

At the reasons God made stars and comets
Knowing we are better if we do not take chances
Do not do what is right in bosom and beast

And still we talk about our greatness our power over fear our hand grenades of courage that never explode

For in the end it is what we do with the dirt under our fingernails even if we don't have fingernails that defines the content of our character the steam in our love the cobra in our walk

Yet it all matters little if we cannot chalkmark our own indiscretions our own mistakes if we continue to delay our day of reckoning our hour of judgement

At the beautiful finish line it is not the tongue that matters but how we use it to change the world for the better and in the same turn release our own peacocks from their cages
