All About Newman
Our fine little establishment here at the University of La Verne was first created here in the Spring of 2001. In our infancy, we started out with a small group of 9 members, one overseer, and one advisor. Since then, have a new overseer, more members, and an ongoing struggle to keep the club alive. The Newman Club belongs to the Catholic faith stemming from the influence of Cardinal John Henry Newman. We wish to give Catholic members as well as others belonging to different religions a way to come together; to strengthen our faith and be apart of a family.
Here you will find information regarding the origin of the Newman Club and the great work that Cardinal John Henry Newman is responsible of.

"I am an old man; my hair white, my eyes sunk in . . . but when I shut my eyes and merely think, I can't believe I am more than 25 years old, and smile to think how differently strangers must think of me from my own internal feelings." -John Henry Newman
We hear this question quite often. John Henry Newman was an Englishman who lived during most of the last century (1801-1890).He spent nearly all of his life in an academic setting. Newman was dedicated to pursuing religious truth and understanding of our heritage and traditions as Christians. His search led him to join the Catholic Church--a move that left him in disfavor with many of his friends in the Anglican Church, and mistrusted as well by many Catholics. Nevertheless, he was honored by the Pope by becoming made a Cardinal late in his life, and many of his theological insights bore fruit in the teaching of the Second Vatican Council in the 1960s
