| Matthew Hill (MGH) IN PROTEST OF WAR POLITICS (Ghazal II) "We love our boys," the politician declares. "The slaughter has begun," is what he really means. At home, a little boy makes a card for Daddy’s return. The next morning, Daddy’s found in the obituaries. In the city, life goes on as it must: out of necessity. Then all at once, the city can stop and turn. All the eyes are on the girl standing at the front of the class. She has a sad message, but the government has borrowed her voice. The media then loans it to a campaign. As always, they forget to return it. At this moment, life is being bled for love. And somewhere, a child is being neglected. When you wake up tomorrow, civil hands will be unclean And the boys we love will have their minds smeared on foreign sidewalks. |
